Why do people blame Kevin Costner for John Dutton’s exit from Yellowstone?

So many of us are not happy with the way that John Dutton’s character exited the show. What still surprises me is that many still blame Costner. Personally I think it was a wrong move for them to do what they did (no spoiler) – watch to find out if you haven’t yet.

However, when shooting S5 Sheridan told Costner that he did not have the last scripts available to shoot at the time they had planned to complete the season shoot schedule. Then the schedule was bumped around a few times wherein Costner made himself available for these new shoot dates, until he could not continue to do so. The Yellowstone team knew he had Horizon schedule already in place. It was as if they were playing games instead of being honest. having worked in Hollywood 3+ decades, I have seen it all. How you write a character out of a show comes with politics. Not here to change your mind, hate him if you must, but unless you’ve spent time navigating it all, you tend to believe what they let hang out there. In other words, they are fine with you blaming him instead of coming forward with what actually took place.

There are videos of Costner talking about what took place – so you do not have to believe me. And I am not saying Costner is a saint either.
