Tom Selleck Responds to Blue Bloods Cancellation: ‘The Show Experiencing A Popularity Like Never Before’

Tom Selleck isn’t ready for Blue Bloods to end, and neither are the fans. The long-running CBS serial is set to end with Season 14, which will air in two parts. See Tom Selleck’s honest opinions on the show’s finale below.

Blue Bloods is a popular CBS police procedural. It follows the fictional Reagan family, who have a long history with law enforcement. The show debuted in September 2010 and has headlined CBS’ Friday night roster ever since.

The Magnum, P.I. alum plays New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, the patriarch of the Reagan family. The cast includes Donny Wahlberg, Will Estes, Bridget Moynahan, Marisa Ramirez, Len Cariou, and Vanessa Ray.

CBS announced in November 2023 that the Blue Bloods would conclude after Season 14, a two-part series. Selleck said it was an honor and a delight to work on the show for the past 13 years, and he thanked the viewers who joined us for dinner every Friday night.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, the performer was more open about the show’s conclusion. CBS will discover that a large number of people are unwilling to say goodbye to it, he warned the site.

The show is more popular than ever, and I believe [numbers] will rise with the interest this year. He said, “We’re definitely not out of ideas.”

Selleck went on to declare that he isn’t ready to retire from the program or performing yet. I’m not counting the days so I can do anything else, he clarified. I enjoy the work. Because I’m older, my hours can be a little longer at times, but so what?

I want to work for as long as they will have me. The actor also mentioned that Frank isn’t quite ready to turn in his badge. He chooses conflicts because he wants someone to take the weight of this burden off his shoulders and fire him, Selleck said of his character, but he has an overactive feeling of obligation and is trapped with it.

The remainder of the cast has yet to talk about the show’s finale, but several have provided behind-the-scenes footage from Season 14, which will broadcast on February 16, 2024. In early January 2024, Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan, posted a video of the entire Reagan family standing for a portrait at the legendary dinner table.
