Kevin Costner Unveils Trailer for Horizon: An American Saga, His Epic 2-Part Western

‘Horizon: An American Saga’ is a two-part film in theaters this summer: Chapter 1 on June 28, and Chapter 2 on Aug. 16

Kevin Costner’s passion project, Horizon: An American Saga, is finally approaching its release. Warner Bros. Pictures recently unveiled the first trailer for the epic, which will be released in two parts this summer. Costner, at 69, not only stars in but also directs and co-wrote the film, which spans the years of the American Civil War (1861–1865) and explores the dynamics of the Old West.

The movie is described as a cinematic journey through the trials of families, friends, and enemies, as they wrestle with what it means to build the United States. Costner emphasized his desire to portray the reality of that era, touching on the bravery and resourcefulness of his ancestors, while also acknowledging the injustices that took place in the West.

Costner has worked on developing Horizon since 1988, facing obstacles in getting it made. His commitment led him to partially fund the project himself, even mortgaging his Santa Barbara property. He compared his passion for this film to the enthusiasm he felt while making Dances with Wolves, his Oscar-winning epic from 1990.

The star-studded cast includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Luke Wilson, and others. Costner’s son, Hayes, will also make an appearance in the movie.

The first chapter of Horizon: An American Saga releases in theaters on June 28, followed by Chapter 2 on August 16.
